GUM by VONDOM: clean lines for lounging and dining

A continuous tubular line gives GUM its character. Explore seating and tables in a light, Mediterranean-inspired setting.

One line connects the collection

GUM is an outdoor furniture collection designed by Ramón Esteve for VONDOM. A continuous curved tubular structure defines the seating and connects the pieces visually. The supplied document lists aluminium and polyurethane. Soft cushions meet a deliberately simple frame. This gives the image series a calm quality: the furniture brings order to the outdoor space while stone walls, planting and the open view retain their presence. If you want to make a terrace an extension of the living room, GUM offers ideas for a consistent design language. That does not mean furnishing every area in exactly the same way. A repeated frame, coordinated colour or related table shape can connect the lounge and dining area and make the outdoor setting feel like a whole.

Lounging and dining need different spaces

The images show both a lounge group with low tables and a set dining table beneath a pergola. These areas serve different purposes. The lounge prioritises relaxed sitting, while the dining area needs a suitable table and easy access to plates and glasses. If you are planning both on one terrace, start with the routes: from the home to the table, from the table into the garden and from the lounge back to the entrance. The overhead dining image shows how pulled-back chairs need additional floor space. Assess a table together with its seating clearance rather than by its footprint alone. A separate place for longer conversations can free up the dining table and make an evening together more varied without repeatedly moving the furniture.

A light frame for the view

On the raised stone terrace, the pale GUM group has a restrained presence. The furniture remains part of the view without overwhelming the relationship between terrace, tree and sea. You can use this idea without living on the coast: an attractive garden, courtyard or open meadow can provide the same starting point. Arrange the group so that the most appealing view is comfortable to enjoy while seated. Consider the practical conditions of the site at the same time. Steps, slopes and terrace edges require appropriately planned clearance. The expansive presentation is a design idea rather than a scale plan for your own property. Measure the usable level surface and keep routes between different levels clear before deciding on the seating arrangement.

Compare light and dark finishes

The same shape creates different impressions in the light and darker views. Pale frames and cushions echo the warm stone and keep the overall setting open. The darker group stands out more clearly against the pale façade. The chair close-up helps you judge that effect independently of the large landscape image. Do not choose from a single photograph alone: compare the finish with the flooring, window frames and any existing furniture. A pale seating area can provide an appealing contrast beside a dark container façade. Against a light wall, a darker structure can make the outline of the furniture easier to read. Compare fabric and finish samples outdoors, since screen settings and changing daylight can make a colour look different.

Tables establish the rhythm of the seating area

The low tables appear as clearly defined surfaces between the sofa and chairs. Their shapes remain calm, while the curved seating frames bring movement to the group. Think about how you will use the tables: is one surface enough for drinks and a book, or would each seat benefit from its own place to put things? Several smaller tables can look flexible, but they still occupy floor space. Check that the surfaces are easy to reach from the sofa and leave room to move in front of the seats. A single plant or small bowl can provide an accent without filling the entire tabletop. The arrangement should be as useful in everyday life as it looks in the styled image, encouraging regular use of the outdoor space.

Turn the image into a practical selection

A terrace sketch, the number of seats you need and your preference for lounging, dining or both provide a useful starting point for a GUM enquiry. Save the views you like and identify the shape or colour that appeals to you. The current manufacturer page shows the related furniture and product information. Check dimensions, selected materials, fabrics, care and purchasing routes for the exact specification you are considering. Include a sheltered place for cushion storage in your plan. If the terrace sits beside a compact home, a clear entrance route matters more than fitting in the largest possible seating group. A well-chosen smaller arrangement may be more enjoyable because it preserves the view and makes everyday use simpler.
